Hoya macrophylla is all about bold foliage and beautiful texture, with broad, deeply veined leaves that give this climber a lush, sculptural look from the very start. It has a wonderfully dramatic presence for a Hoya, with each leaf feeling substantial and a little theatrical, making it an easy favourite for collectors who love foliage that does the talking. Hoya sold as “macrophylla” in cultivation is often treated as Hoya latifolia in current references.
This is a gorgeous choice for anyone wanting a Hoya with a more commanding look. Given something to climb and a spot with bright filtered light, it can become a striking feature in a collection, and when mature it may reward you with clusters of softly coloured, fragrant flowers that make it even more special.
