Philodendron El Choco Red
Philodendron El Choco Red
Philodendron rubrijuvenile
8 in stock
Please note: El Choco Red has velvety foliage that benefits from gentle handling. Low humidity can contribute to brown leaf edges, while direct sun can scorch the leaves. Minor cosmetic marks can occur during handling or transit.
Philodendron El Choco Red is all velvet and colour, with heart-shaped leaves, luminous veins and vivid red petioles that make the fresh growth glow. The newest leaves can emerge in warm bronze and copper tones before settling into a deep, soft green.
Give it a support to climb and this Philodendron becomes increasingly dramatic, producing larger foliage while keeping that unmistakable red-backed character. It is a collector plant with real presence, yet its strongest feature is how much the colour changes as each leaf develops.
| Position | Bright, indirect light with good airflow. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the velvety foliage. |
| Temperature | Prefers warm, humid conditions. Keep above 15°C and away from cold drafts. |
| Water | Keep evenly moist during active growth, allowing the top of the mix to begin drying before watering again. Never leave the roots sitting in water. |
| Fertiliser | Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced indoor plant fertiliser. |
| Repotting | Repot when established and rootbound into a chunky, free-draining aroid mix. Add a support as the plant begins to climb. |
| Pet Friendly | Philodendrons are not Pet Friendly. |
May also be known as: Philodendron rubrijuvenile (accepted scientific name); historically supplied as Philodendron verrucosum ‘El Choco Red’
