Pontastic is an alternative to soil or potting mix for your plants. It is a hand mixed, high quality, pure mineral substrate for plants.

Out Of Stock? Pontastic is also available in a Black colour - the same mix just Black.

What is Pontastic?

Pontastic is a specially balanced mixture of minerals that can be used to pot your plants into instead of soil. Pontastic is suitable for all plants. It acts as a semi-hydroponic mineral substrate medium to support your plants effective growth. Pontastic also contains a small dose of slow-release fertiliser to keep your plants fed for up to 6 months of growing.

Pontastic can be used as an alternative to LECA or LECHUZA-PON.

Why should I use it?

Some of the many benefits to using Pontastic for your plants:

  • Easier cleanup, no dirt or soil.
  • Suitable for all plants.
  • Does not allow Fungus Gnats to nest and blocks them from spreading in your home.
  • Extremely well-draining and will not saturate your plant and roots, reducing the possibility of overwatering and rot.
  • Ample air flow to the roots of your plant. Supports the right balance of water and air.
  • Works very well in a self-watering pot and effectively transfers moisture up into the roots using capillary action.
  • Does not degrade over time like potting mix or soil. It can be used for as long as you want and doesn't need to be changed.
  • It can be reused over and over.
  • It is pH balanced and stable.
  • It also looks great!

Which plants does it work with?

Pontastic is suitable for all plants, but some plant types especially love it and will thrive in it, such as:

  • Hoya
  • Calathea
  • Ctenanthe
  • Maranta
  • Philodendron
  • Alocasia
  • Ficus
  • Monstera
  • Dieffenbachia
  • Aglaonema

How to use it?

  1. Rinse Pontastic with water before first use to remove any dust that has formed during shipping and transport.
  2. You can "ponvert" your existing plants by carefully removing the soil or other medium from the roots as much as possible and re-planting them into Pontastic.
  3. You can plant your cuttings or propagations straight into Pontastic.

The Pontastic 3 Litre size will pot up to:

  • 27x 50mm Pots
  • 6x 100mm Pots
  • 2x 140mm Pots

What's in it?

Volcanic Pumice and Lava Rocks are selected for its porous quality and the ability to hold and transfer the right amount of moisture for your plants roots to consume. Zeolites are used to ensure your plants have access to essential nutrients and minerals as well as activating the inbuilt slow-release fertiliser which will be sufficient for most plants for the first 3-6 months.

Product works great for semi hydro. So far I’ve used it to pot up young Alocasia and corms and they’re doing very well. Great for watching root growth in clear glass containers.

4/5 stars from me because of the packaging. Whilst I appreciate the packaging being fully recyclable, made of cardboard/paper, it’s a bit messy and annoying to handle. Especially small bits of Pontastic and dust escape the bag very easily.
